Stocks on the Move

Stocks on the move should be carefully watched. These stocks can represent opportunity for large increases or for big losses. Either way, as a stock trader you will benefit if you understand what stocks are moving and where they are headed.

The first stock that is on the move is Centennial Communications Corp., symbol CYCL: US. This stock saw an increase in market price by $3.50 for an incredible 93 percent because of the latest news. This wireless company, which is based in Wall, New Jersey, has agreed to a buyout from AT&T Inc., symbol T: US, for the amount of $944 million dollars. This equals out to $8.50 a share.

Two stocks on the move in the wrong direction are MBIA Inc., symbol MBI: US, and People's United Financial Inc., symbol PBCT: US. NBIA Inc. fell 13 percent for $1.03 a share to end up at $6.95 a share. This was the result of a bond insurance rating that dropped two levels by the company Moody's Investors Service. This rating drop was due to disruptions in the entire mortgage industry as well as the potential for even more mortgage related losses. People's United Financial Inc lost 0.08 percent and is down to $16.65 a share. This is due to a statement by Standard & Poor.

Another stock that is on the move is the famous auction house Sotheby's, symbol BID: US. This famous auction house is the most publicly traded. It suffered a loss in the third quarter that was more than double what was expected. The company expected a loss of less than 25 cents a share, but instead suffered a loss of 71 cents a share. Despite this loss, the stock went up 1 percent, up to $8.80 a share. Rowan Cos., symbol RDC: US, is also moving up. This drilling company specializing in natural gas and oil rigs is expecting that some of their customers will want to cancel or delay orders for rigs. This stock went up 4.4 percent and is now trading at $18.80.
Stock Traders

USG Corp, symbol USG: US, is another stock on the move and should be watched, but this stock is headed down currently, although not by a large amount. This company is the largest gypsum wallboard maker and recently released the fact that plans are in the works to cut 20 percent of their salaried workforce, which is around 900 jobs. The stock plunged a small percentage, 1.1 percent to be specific. Another stock that has gone down and may plunge even further is Circuit City. This electronics retailer has announced that it has filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter Eleven. A week ago the company announced that there would be a 20 percent cut in operating stores and there would be layoffs for many employees.

Stocks on the move can be good or bad, depending on which way the stock is moving. All stock traders hope to see their stocks on the move in an upward direction, and many fear seeing a move in the opposite direction because usually that means losses. Stocks that are moving should be watched carefully so you can get in on the ground floor or get out before it is too late.
