1.One of the best tips for avoiding identity theft is to protect your social security card. Keep it in a secure place at home, and be very cautious when giving this number out.
2.Use a shredder, and shred all papers and documents that contain personal or secure information. To avoid becoming a victim of identity theft.
3.Look at all bank, credit card, and other financial statements closely each month for any unusual purchases or transactions.
4.Use a mailbox or post office box with a lock for your mail, to ensure no one else has access.
5.Check all three of the major credit reporting agency reports frequently, at least once each year.
6.Never give out personal information unless you are positive you know who is receiving this information, how it is stored, and who can access and use this information.
7.One of the best tips for avoiding identity theft is to only carry the credit cards and other personal or financial documents and cards you need. If you do not plan on using a bank card, credit card,
passport, or checkbook then leave it at home when you go out.
8.Always keep your purse and wallet in sight.
9.Immediately report any unusual or suspicious activity to the police or other appropriate authority to prevent further damage to your credit.
10.Close any bank or credit card accounts that you no longer use.
